With heavy hearts, we lower our flags to half-mast as we mourn the tragic Line of Duty Death of Philadelphia Fire Department Lieutenant and Springfield Fire Company Firefighter Matthew LeTourneau. This morning, while working his shift as Lieutenant of Engine 45 in North Philadelphia, the Department responded to a working fire in a row home on the 2200-blk of N. Colorado St. Lt. LeTourneau and his crew entered the dwelling and removed a civilian victim, who was unfortunately deceased. During the course of operations, Lt. LeTourneau and two other members were caught in a structural collapse. Matt was trapped for approx. 30 minutes before being removed by rescue crews, and was tragically pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Temple University Hospital. Matt was known by many throughout the Philadelphia and Delaware County fire services as a dedicated firefighter who was extremely knowledgeable. This is an enormous loss to the fire service. In addition to also being a volunteer firefighter at Springfield Fire Co. (Station 44), Matt was an instructor at the Delaware County Emergency Services Training Center. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, as well as all of his brothers and sisters in the PFD and SFD. Please don’t hesitate to contact Station 20 if there’s anything we can do. Rest in Peace, Lieutenant.
