At 9:45 pm on 5/13/18, Company 20 and assisting Township units were dispatched to 1107 Alexander Ave. for a house fire with people trapped. While enroute, Fireboard reported calls being received for a fire on the 2nd floor with 2 people trapped, one inside the house and one on the roof. Upper Darby Police arrived in seconds and confirmed a working bedroom fire with a female hanging from the 2nd floor rear. Officers entered the home and also found a male unconscious on the first floor, who they dragged out to safety before rescuing the female. As EMS tended to the victims, Engine 20 (Asst. Chief Stevenson) and Squad 26 (Highland Park) arrived to find heavy smoke showing from the 2 story split-level dwelling and put a line in service for fire in the 2nd floor bedroom. Truck 37 (Upper Darby) began searches and ventilation while Ladder 20 (Dep. Chief B. Tully) went to the roof. Engine 20-1 (Capt. Rapp) stretched a second 1 3/4″ handline to the 3rd level bedroom and performed searches and ventilation. No fire extension was found outside the room of origin. Company 20 remained on scene for about 90 mins performing overhaul before returning. Rescue 20 also made the response and 20-9 (Chief Hoban) had interior command. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment.
