At 7:54 pm Monday night, Companies 20 and 74 (Primos-Secane), Engine 36 (Cardington-Stonehurst), RIT 37 (Upper Darby), and Medic 103-7 (DCMH) were sent to 3816 James St. for the house fire. 20-9 (Chief Hoban) and Engine 20-1 (D/C M. Morgan) arrived to a 2½ story vacant twin dwelling and discovered heavy smoke from the rear. 20-1's crew stretched an 1 ¾" handline and forced entry into a storage area underneath the rear porch, where they were confronted with heavy fire. Engine 36-2 dropped a supply line for 20-1 and assisted with fire extinguishment, followed by Engine 20-2. Tower 74 and Ladder 20 performed truck company duties by searching and ventilating on the floors above. The fire extended into the rear porch above the storage area, but was stopped there. The job was placed under control in about 20 minutes. All searches were negative as the home was confirmed to be vacant and under going renovations. Rescue 20 also took in the Box. Company 20 responded with 29 volunteers and was in service for overhaul for over an hour. Crews were back in the station and restoring apparatus by 9:15 pm.
