Saturday, March 2, 2013 05:12 - Around 5 am, Saturday morning, Companies 19 (Lansdowne), 16 (Yeadon), 24 (East Lansdowne), RIT 09 (Sharon Hill), and Medic 105 (Fitz Hospital) were alerted for an apartment building fire at 32 S. Wycombe Ave. First arriving units found heavy fire from the third floor of a 3 story apartment building. 19-9A (Worley) established command and immediately requested a 2nd alarm, adding full Companies 20, 03 (Clifton Heights), 09, 04 (Darby #1), Rescue 42 (Collingdale #2), and RIT 43 (Holmes). Engine 20-1 (Capt. Stevenson), 20-2, and Ladder 20 all made the response with 20 volunteers. Upon arrival, Drexel Hill crews went to work assisting with various fireground operations. Heavy fire extended into the large cockloft of the building and began running the roof. Crews performed a trench cut of the roof as well as aggressively pulled the ceilings inside the building to extinguish the flames. The fire was brought under control a short time later and units remained on scene well into the morning for overhaul. Unfortunately, one person was discovered deceased in the main fire apartment. Company 20 was back in the township around 7:45 am.
