QUICK KNOCK ON FIRST DUE KITCHEN FIRE
Thursday, February 21, 2013 22:12
-
At about 10:10 pm Thursday night, Companies 20, 74 (Primos-Secane), Engine 36 (Cardington-Stonehurst), RIT 37 (Upper Darby), and Medic 103-7 (DCMH) were dispatched to 158 Abbey Ter. for a building fire. 20-9 (Chief Hoban) and Engine 20-1 (D/C M. Morgan) were first on scene to find a two story duplex with smoke showing from the second floor. The crew of 20-1 ran an 1 ¾" handline to the upstairs apartment where they found heavy smoke and a working fire in the kitchen, involving the cabinets and walls. As the first-in crew put a knock on the fire, Engine 20-2 (Capt. Donohue) arrived and prepared to drop a supply line while the crew assisted 20-1's crew with opening the walls and ceiling in the kitchen to check for extension. Ladder 20 (Lieut. Rapp) took first-due ladder duties and began ventilating and assisting with opening up. Engine 36-2 took the attached exposure and checked for any smoke conditions, finding none. The fire was placed under control by the 1st ten minute mark and held to Company 20 for overhaul. No extension was found and all units were available in 30 minutes. Rescue 20 also responded on the run. 25 Volunteers turned out for this fire.
